Roasted Pork Rib

It has been quite sometime since i wrote my last post. I did had a lot going on between these period but due to over-relaxing season, I have sort of “forgotten” about them! Friends had been telling me my blog is staling away. Just a little update from me again. I am still a happy soul and am still jobless for the time being and had loads of food experimenting going on.

Yesterday, once in ablue moon, cooked up a plate of western food. Although not really nice but they did looked yummy. Ya, you should really never judge a book by it’s cover. Not really that bad though just that need a lil more practice! =P

Decorated Cupcakes

Date: 24 Aug 09

Venue: Korean BBQ, Ipoh Garden South

Event: Farewell for Karwai the goatie

The young working adults, EGH, had a little farewell dinner for Karwai as he would be going off to UK to pursue his Masters Degree. Meanwhile I took the opportunity to try out an improved version of buttercream…stiff enough for me to practice more on piping a better looking rose. Liyen was really happy playing with the colourful icing…simply lovely colours!

Realizing that it’s written “Buhbye Karwai” which creatively altered by our dear YWA to:

DSC08497

to… “BUBHEY” aka *piggie* in a rather indie slang…hahaha…they’re simply creative…funny! Btw, I was accused of having spelling problem -.-”.

a closeup for my piped rose:

Boleh tahan lar hor?

Days before this i had an attempt trying out my magic piping tip: the star tip! using real butter cream and various colours…the swirls were really pretty…and I inserted a little choc button into the cupcake for  little surprise =P

Vanilla Bean CheeseCake

Am really proud of my vanilla bean cheesecake! Finally I found a way to actually use my vanilla beans, sent all the way from UK by my sis months ago. There are so precious and I just felt sorry to use them…silly me!

Vanilla Pod

Vanilla Pod – Two gone and four left!

Yups, as food shows always remind their audiences…”Do not throw the pod away after scraping out the gorgeous black seeds, keep them in a jar of sugar to make vanilla sugar”. Well, that’s what I did anyways! Hope in weeks I will have a nice jar of vanilla sugar!

Any other suggestion for the remaining pods? Creme brulee? more cheesecake? haha…

Buttercream

My first attempt in piping buttercream roses…it wasn’t really that difficult to learn but it’s definitely not easy to master the technique in making a nice one (oopsi…sounded like “elle a dit..zzz”…tim…=P). Not too bad eh..but it’s really fun trying the new piping nozzle..*smile*

buttercream rose1messy eh?

Testing out a new recipe for vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Luckily the buttercream wasn’t as sweet as I expected, so it’s, again, not too bad i guess. hahaha…*Happy*

buttercream cupcake1

Btw…the buttercream keep getting soft (the butter starts to melt at room temperature very quickly)…any good tips (or recipe) to improve on this? Let me know if you know of any good methods ya!

Liyen goes French

Woohoo…Sunday dinner was edible…and no civilians were found food poisoned! haha…

There weren’t many chances that I would actually deal with meat…I find it so yucky having to clean the bloody piece of meat. But tell me what to do when I am so in love with this carnivorous meat-eater! Since mum was not in a healthy state to cook, i sorta stole the opportunity to own the kitchen for a bit. =P my main dish was a traditional French dish, Cog Au Vin (chicken cooked in wine):

french1Cog Au Vin

I wouldn’t say it tasted amazing but no doubt it was not too bad, or at least it was edible and the plate’s empty at the end of the day! it’s something very different that we would never have anything like that at home since mum n dad didn’t quite like to change their taste palette. Well, at least, Ricky liked it! =P

The main was complemented with some other sides; a plain creamy mashed potato, a fresh green salad with lime-honey dressing and fried spaghetti.

french2Clockwise from top left: Salad, Mashed Potato, Cog Au Vin, Fried Spaghetti

Thank you so much for my food tasters of the day: Ricky, Mum & Dad (although they didn’t quite like the taste of red wine but they DID tried a little *grin*), my lil’ bro, Aunty Fun and lil’ cousin Ivan. *phew*…loads more practices needed!

Mid-Sem trip to Cameron Highlands!

Here we go, time for some updates…just last Saturday and Sunday we had a lil’ trip to Cameron Highlands…this time the “we” it’s not just me and Likkei…there were thirteen of us up there spending some real quality time together. I bet everyone had some great time there!

Saturday

Cwei’s house was our set out point. This time our beloved friends were highly efficient reaching just 15 minutes late from the preplanned schedule! Haha…and we headed straight for breakfast somewhere nearby. Although we were not too behind the schedule but…BUT…as always they “chui sui” for soooo looong even at the breakfast place!!!

cameron1Clockwise from top: Group picture w/o the photographer!; loading Fa Fa’s car; some pretty flowers even before we reach Cameron.

Our first stop is at the Green View Garden, located at Kampung Raja, just on the way up to Cameron Highlands from Simpang Pulai. The vegetation looked really pretty and they have the BEST strawberry lollies in Cameron! All sorts of fruit jam and desserts are available here!

cameron2Clockwise from top: first stop at Green View Garden; mouthwatering desserts; Cwei & Fa Fa sucking enjoying their lollies!

cameron3Loads of Strawberries…my photograghy skills not bad eh? =P

cameron4clockwise from left: a root of a hydrophonic plant; fresh lettuces, red gerberras, strawberries again…

cameron5the guys enjoying their lollies!

Equitorial Hotel is a place we never missed…for the free washrooms and great views!

We then checked in to our apartments at Desa Anthurium. We booked two apartments with three rooms each. The apartments are in good condition and extremely cheap! A big thanx for WoanChin for making a great deal for us! Lunch at Restorant Yeong Wah, Brinchang, and opposite a cactus farm. The price is reasonable and not bad at all!

cameron8Makan makan makan!

We had tea at the T-Café at Tanah Rata. It was my favourite place to hang out and have scones and apple pie. I have to say the apple pie is nice as always but this time the scones were a bit off…and they have a new variation of scones…the strawberry scones.

cameron9Left: Strawberry scone; right: Apple pie with vanilla ice-cream

We tried to burn some calories before heading for dinner at the park nearby. Just look at those happy faces of our youths today! They are really enjoying it! And make my life easier trying to take some good pictures! Haha…

cameron14Ice-cream moments at the night market

It rained a little and we had to rushed back to get our car and headed back to our apartments.

Sunday

Breakfast at Sri Brinchang Mamak stall…Good food, Fair price…(Tanah Rata)

cameron15

We then stopped at the Multicrops and Kea Farm for some fresh produce…should-buys are: strawberries, sweet corn, sweet potatoes and extremely-small-cherry tomatoes. The long awaited destination..the Boh Tea Farm, brinchang! Free entrance which offers a wide array of tea products and a open view of their factory. Not forgetting the gorgeous breathtaking views of the tea plantation!

cameron16a multimillion ads!

cameron17What more can i say?

A group picture at last!

cameron-gpReena, Woanchin, Tling, Cwei, Siewfoong, Waikit, CheeKang, Kum, Kharyau, OonLam, Likkei, Me, Fa Fa

A piece of advice: it’s always good to bring along an air freshener as most of the apartments/rooms for rent have funny smell!

I am glad to say, with a fairly good planning we only spent RM87 each on the 2 apartments, breakfast, lunches, dinner, tea and petrol.

Christmas Caroling

Yup yup yup…

It’s Christmas again. This year a lil’ special, my family agreed to let me invite carolers to come and sing for the very first time. Hallelujah~ And I am very glad that the Elim Youths did a pretty good job. A great big thanx to all who came and enjoyed the nite!

Before the caroling, my relatives all came for a get-together dinner in conjunction of the “Dong Zhi”…err…I do not know what it’s known as in English though. You night get bored already as 90% of my posts are food-related, but what to do…it’s me, Liyen mar…

Ladies and gentlement, here comes the foodie (mind you, it’ all homemade!)
